Thank You, Chain!

When I first started running about 2 months ago, I felt like I needed a way to keep me on track. A way to force me to not give up. A way to visually see my progress. So, after each run, I would cut a link off my little chain. {Here is my chain these days}

The first few weeks of this journey, I looked at this thing and literally dreaded putting my shoes on. Fortunately, it did it’s “job” and out the door I’d go. The only time I missed a run was when my MIL and her sister came to visit. As time went on, I’m not sure when exactly, but running and my other workouts just became my normal. I’m sure being home everyday has been a HUGE factor in this as well, but I can’t help but give this little guy credit!

I noticed a few days ago that my chain hadn’t changed much recently…then it hit me. While the chain had been such a great motivation for me in the beginning, I realized that I am now my own motivation!! I no longer have a need to cut off a link just to show that I’d finished a run.

This is the most empowering feeling I’ve had in quite some time. It makes me want to be a better person. A better wife. A better neighbor. A better Christian. Just better!! I am so proud of myself for sticking with this. I’m only a week and a half from my first race and I just KNOW this is part of my life now. I just look forward to the day when I’m this close to my first half marathon. This is just the beginning and that makes me SO excited!!
